Bianca Baldi Eyes in the Back of Your Head

Numbers and letters in an alphanumeric sequence hold the keys to our askings.
It is in their repetition that the numbers acquire potency.
I come to you because I desire to see
Eyes in the back of your head.

Numbers and letters in an alphanumeric sequence hold the keys to our askings.
It is in their repetition that the numbers acquire potency.
I come to you because I desire to see
Eyes in the back of your head.

Taking symptomatic events from the repertoire of Western European imperial history as a starting point, Bianca Baldi stages the concurrence of seemingly circumstantial, anecdotal moments with the great imperial narratives, which up until today determine the relationship between the West and non-European culture. For her exhibition at Kunstverein Harburger Bahnhof which includes a new video work, objects and a textile installation, she uses photographs of the construction of the radio station Kamina (1911 – 14) as well as to a talisman scroll from the former German colony Togo. In both systems referred to, the medium as a physical manifestation of invisible forces plays a major role. The title "Eyes in the Back of Your Head" addresses linguistic and structural parallels between magical practices and communication technologies, which each generate power through a priviledged access to knowledge. Possibilities of technical surveillance are being envoced as well as the concept of the "second sight"; a sixth sense which, in the form of the premonition, overcomes the limits of space and time.
