K21 zeigt die erste europäische museale Ausstellung des kubanisch-amerikanischen Künstlers JORGE PARDO (geb. 1963 in Havanna, lebt und arbeitet in Los Angeles). Pardo ist in Düsseldorf kein Unbekannter, hat er hier doch spektakuläre Gestaltungen wie die der historischen Turbinenhalle der Düsseldorfer Stadtwerke und der Bar am Kaiserteich in K21 realisiert.
In der von Jorge Pardo selbst entworfenen Ausstellung wird eine Auswahl an ca. 80 Objekten, Bildern und Skulpturen aus den vergangenen 15 Jahren vorgestellt, wobei die Fokussierung auf Aspekte der Oberflächengestaltung den opulenten formalen Reichtum von Pardos Arbeiten hervorhebt.
In der Überblicksausstellung in K21 wird Pardo als vielseitiger bildender Künstler vorgestellt. Form, Farbe, Fläche und Raumerleben stehen im Zentrum von Pardos künstlerischem Konzept. In der experimentellen Verschränkung von Skulptur und Malerei, Design und Architektur, Handwerk und digital gesteuerter Produktion kommt bei Jorge Pardo die Utopie einer Verbindung von Kunst und Leben in einer überzeugend gegenwärtigen Art und Weise zum Ausdruck.
Es erscheint ein Katalog mit Beiträgen von Doris Krystof, Barbara Steiner und Christina Végh.

K21 will be showing the first European solo exhibition in a museum by the Cuban-American artist Jorge Pardo (born in 1963 in Havana, living and working in Los Angeles). Pardo is not unknown in Düsseldorf. He created the design both for the historic turbine hall of Düsseldorf´s municipal utilities and the Bar am Kaiserteich in K21.
Apart from new works, a selection of objects, pictures and sculptures from the past 15 years will be introduced in this show which Jorge Pardo put together himself (approx. 80 works). This collection emphasises the expertly developed aspect of surface design in Pardo’s work. It also illustrates the abundance of form in these works.
He will be on show as a versatile proponent of fine arts in the comprehensive exhibition which he set up himself. Shapes, colours and the awareness of space are at the core of Pardo’s artistic concept. In Pardo’s work, the ideal of a connection between art and life is expressed in a convincingly topical way through the experimental linking of sculpture and painting, design and architecture, craft and digitally processed production.
There will be a catalogue on this exhibition with contributions by Christina Végh, Doris Krystof, Barbara Steiner and others. Lectures, discussions and also field trips to Pardo’s public works in the region have been planned in connection with the show.
