Der Maler, Bildhauer und Performer Jonathan Meese (geb. 1970 / Tokio) entwickelt für das Arp Museum Bahnhof Rolandseck unter dem Titel "Erzstaat Atlantisis" eine Ausstellung, die sich mit dem versunkenen Inselreich Atlantis befasst.
Jonathan Meese, der sich häufig mit Persönlichkeiten der Weltgeschichte, Ur-Mythen und Heldensagen auseinandersetzt und diese politisch akzentuiert, findet - trotz geteilter Kritik, die zwischen grotesk, krawallig und ernstzunehmend schwankt - international Anerkennung. In Remagen zeigt er neue Arbeiten. In einer szenographischen Inszenierung werden Bronzegussplastiken, Gemälde, Zeichnungen und eine Klanginstallation zu sehen sein, die Meese durch Performances, eine Märchenlesung mit der Mutter des Künstlers, einen Film von Jan Bauer über den Ausstellungsaufbau sowie eine Audioguideführung ergänzt.

Jonathan Meese is developing an exhibition specifically for Arp Museum Bahnhof Rolandseck, whose theme is the sunken island of Atlantis.
The museum complex situated on the river Rhine offers an ideal theatre for the 38-year-old painter, sculptor and word and action artist to stage his Atlantis reinterpretation entitled "Archstate Atlantisis" [Erzstaat Atlantisis]. Meese´s proximity to Hans Arp is unmistakable, evidenced by works that are permeated with poetic word collages. In addition, the new building designed by Richard Meier with its 40-metre-high lift shaft and light-flooded exhibition wing is an appropriate site for the artist´s allusions to the rise and fall of civilizations.
Meese will hereby present, almost exclusively, new works within a dense, scenographic staging: bronze sculptures, paintings, drawings and a sound installation. The exhibition will be augmented with performances, a reading of fairytales by the artist´s mother, a making-of film by Jan Bauer on the exhibition, as well as tours with an audio guide recorded with Meese and the curator of the exhibition, Daniel J. Schreiber, speaking the text. The supporting programme will also include a series of Meese´s favourite films, such as Clockwork Orange, Caligula, Dr. No, Zardoz, Star Wars and Alien.
A catalogue will be published on the exhibition with texts by Jonathan Meese, Daniel J. Schreiber and Klaus Gallwitz, among others. The catalogue will contain a photo spread of the exhibit.
